4-Man Tournament Results:
The 4-man tournament was held last Saturday, June 28th. The turnout (68 players) for this event
was slightly lower than what we had hoped for, but those in attendance were treated to some good
weather, and hopefully, all had a good time. We’re assuming that having the event on a Saturday
may have affected the turnout, but if there was something else that kept you away, we would like
to hear about it. The board and the tournament committee would like to see this tournament be even
larger next year, so if there is anything we can do that will increase participation, let us know -
we welcome your ideas. I would also like to extend our thanks to the volunteers who helped us during
this event (Mike Eblacker, Leon Ridikas). Here are the results. Congratulations to the winners…
While I’m on the subject of the 4-man event, I need to address a subject that I would prefer I didn’t have to.
During the time dinner was being served, it was brought to my attention that the restaurant had run out of food.
This was due to the fact that one or more club members decided that one piece of prime rib was not enough and took
it upon themselves to take another. As a result, some of your fellow club members would have had to go without the
dinner they ordered and paid for, had the club not paid for extra food on the spot. Because of this, we’re now
discussing whether we need to start issuing tickets for dinner at future events. I even heard of a specific instance
of a club member trying to take one of the pieces of raw meat from the grill area and put it into a napkin to take
with him. (That one reminds me of the scene in Vegas Vacation where Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) is stuffing food into
his pockets at the buffet line. Wow – Is that really the image we want to have associated with our club?). I also was
informed that one of our members was rather rude to the staff at the bar. I’m not going to mention any names, because those
involved know who you are. The point is this: Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s game. It is supposed to exemplify the
values of honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for any of our members to behave in a
way that is disrespectful of the restaurant staff, or to take any other action that casts the club in an unfavorable light.
Remember that each of you is a representative of our club. Let me make this very clear. Our club cannot and will not
tolerate behavior like this. Membership is not your right – It is a privilege. And with that privilege comes the
responsibility to act in a manner that does not diminish the reputation of the club. Those of you who find it difficult
to follow basic rules of good conduct will face disciplinary action that can, in certain cases, include your removal
from the club. I sincerely hope that this is the first and only time I have to discuss this.
